What We Do

Hungry Machines is a home energy management platform. It connects to the machines you already own and generates optimized operating schedules for your HVAC, EV charger, home battery, and water heater. Each night, we analyze your energy usage patterns, local weather forecasts, and your utility's time-of-use rate schedule to shift consumption to cheaper hours — while keeping your home comfortable.

The result: lower electric bills without manual effort or sacrificed comfort. Your devices run on a schedule that reflects both the grid's pricing and your household's actual needs.

The Problem We're Solving

A growing share of US households are on time-of-use electricity rates, where the price per kilowatt-hour changes several times a day. Most homeowners know they should shift their energy use to cheaper hours, but they don't have the time, tools, or expertise to do it every day. The result is that they pay more on a TOU plan than they would on a flat rate.

Software can close that gap. We build the scheduling engine so you don't have to.

The Bigger Picture

Shifting household energy use to off-peak hours does more than cut bills. It reduces peak demand on the grid, makes room for more renewable generation, and improves grid flexibility and resilience. The more homes and buildings that shift this way, the more wind and solar the grid can carry. What a household wants (lower bills, comfort) and what the grid needs (flatter demand, less curtailed solar) turn out to be the same thing.

How We Think About It

Most people don't have time to monitor electricity rates and manually adjust their thermostat or charger throughout the day. We think that's a problem software can solve — not by taking control away from you, but by handling the tedious parts so you can set your preferences and move on.

Every optimization decision is transparent. You can see what the system recommends, why it recommends it, and override it anytime. Your data stays scoped to your account and is never pooled across users. The thermal model that learns your home's behavior is yours alone.
