Home Energy Automation
to Outsmart Your Electric Bill

Hungry Machines is a home energy management system that automatically shifts your HVAC, EV charger, home battery, and water heater to cheaper time-of-use electricity hours — keeping your home comfortable while lowering your bill.

Prices move. Your house doesn't know.

Time-of-use and dynamic electricity rates make some hours far cheaper than others.
Your HVAC, water heater, EV charger, and battery run on whatever schedule you set, not on what the grid is charging right now.
Hungry Machines closes that gap: it plans tomorrow around the cheapest hours, then carries the plan out automatically.

Three simple steps to smarter energy management

1

Create your account

Sign up and tell us about your home: your comfort limits, your electricity rate, and which machines you want optimized.

2

Connect your machines

Link your HVAC, water heater, EV charger, and battery so they can run optimally

3

Set your limits

Set your comfort band and let it run. Every night we build tomorrow's plan around the cheapest hours.

Choose how you connect

One optimizer, a fresh plan every night. Pick the hardware that connects your home to it.

Home Assistant integration

A HACS package that plugs into your existing setup — no new hardware.

  • Works with your existing Home Assistant instance — no new hardware
  • Free tier: the full optimizer for one device
  • Premium removes the device limit and adds multi-device optimization

Home Hub

A pre-built device that connects your HVAC, water heater, EV charger and battery to optimized scheduling.

  • Plug in, connect, configure, save
  • Coordinates HVAC, water heater, EV charger and battery from one box
  • Runs the day's plan on its own hardware
Home Hub Plus

We're building a panel-sensing tier to improve your savings and show what every major circuit is doing.

Smart Satellite

It connects with the unit like the remote control and talks to the optimizer on its own — nothing else to install.

  • Works on its own — one device per unit, nothing else to install
  • Connects like the remote — no thermostat to swap out
  • Great for making your smaller devices smart

Why it's different

Four things that hold true no matter how you connect

Works with what you own

Connect the HVAC, water heater, EV charger and battery brands you already have. Nothing here is tied to a single manufacturer.

Runs on your hardware

The optimizer builds tomorrow's plan every night. Whichever way you connect, your home runs today's plan on its own hardware.

No battery required

No battery required: the savings come from shifting when your HVAC, water heater and EV charger already run, not from storing energy.

Coordinated, not one at a time

HVAC, water heater, EV charger and battery are scheduled together as one system, so a charging EV and a pre-cooling house never compete for the same cheap hour.

See the tradeoffs for yourself

Feed Your Hungry Machines is a five-level game that hands you the same problem the optimizer solves every night — shifting HVAC, water heater, EV charger and battery around a moving price, without going over budget.

Where this is going

Shifting one home's energy use to cheaper hours also flattens peak demand on the grid it's plugged into and makes room for more renewable power. The same is true of every home and building that does it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

How does Hungry Machines save me money? +

Hungry Machines shifts your energy usage within the limits you define. It optimizes for times when electricity is cheaper, like overnight or the middle of the day for time-of-use rates. With HVAC, for example, it learns your home's thermal behavior to pre-condition efficiently and integrates weather forecasts to avoid unnecessary heating or cooling.

Will I lose control of my thermostat? +

Absolutely not. You're always in control. Set your preferences, and override the recommended schedule anytime with a few taps. Your comfort and manual adjustments take priority, and you can see exactly what the system is doing and why.

What devices does it work with? +

HVAC systems, smart thermostats, home batteries, EV chargers, and water heaters. How they connect depends on your route in: a Home Hub, a Smart Satellite for a single remote-controlled unit, or your own Home Assistant. The free tier runs the full optimizer — thermal learning and weather-aware scheduling included — on one HVAC device. Premium removes the limit, so additional HVAC units and any non-HVAC device are scheduled together.

Is my data private and secure? +

Yes. The optimizer builds tomorrow's plan each night; the scheduling happens locally, on your Home Hub, your Satellite, or your own Home Assistant instance. Your home automatically receives recommended load shifting schedules, which you can override locally any time. Your preferences and data inform the recommendations, they are not shared externally.

Do I need Home Assistant? +

No. The Home Hub is an appliance you plug in, and the Smart Satellite is a WiFi device that runs one window AC or mini-split on its own. The Home Assistant integration is there for people who run Home Assistant and want Hungry Machines inside that setup.

How do I install it? +

It depends on how you connect. The Home Hub arrives ready to plug in. The Smart Satellite pairs over WiFi and learns your unit's remote. The Home Assistant integration installs via HACS (Home Assistant Community Store) in a few clicks. Each one takes minutes.
